UX: Problems & Solutions (Module #04)

PROBLEMS:
At the beginning of every year, we see ourselves jotting down New Year’s resolutions with list of things that will make us be a better person; but how much of it are we really doing? We all say we want to improve our lives and achieving our dreams but we’re not really doing anything, aren’t we? Commitment can be hard for a lot people.. that’s why we start small; we start challenging ourselves seven-days at a time.

SOLUTION :
• Create ‘positive snowball’
Here’s where this matters for you: If you create new habits, and make them so insanely easy that you accomplish them every time (and leave in a good mood), you’re creating what’s called a “positive snowball” in your brain. If you managed to finish a challenge (in just seven days), you’ll think to yourself that actually it’s not hard as you thought and will find yourself keep going back to do more challenges.

• Start small / Keep it simple
What we need to do is to find a strategy that lets us lay the foundation of a productive habit while minimizing the upfront workload. And it’s more sensible to set “small, attainable goals throughout the year, rather than a singular, overwhelming goal,” according to psychologist Lynn Bufka. “Remember, it is not the extent of the change that matters, but rather the act of recognizing that lifestyle change is important and working toward it, one step at a time,” Bufka adds.

• Make it obvious (#forsevendays)
An emerging tactic: share your goals with your friends and family. It’s another way to build accountability, especially in the Facebook era.

• Do it together
We all know accountability is the secret to success, right? It’s much easier to go to the gym with a close friend, than it is to go alone and rely on yourself to get out of bed early in the morning (or late at night, if that’s all you’ve got).
